Addressing Post-Decree Family Law Matters
The dissolution of a marriage is not always the end. In fact, statistics in Cook County indicate that more than 70% of divorce judgments lead to post-decree cases, many of these within just a few years of the judgment. A variety of legal issues can continue or surface post-decree, such as enforcement of the terms of the divorce, collection of unpaid support, custody or parenting disputes, and modification of the judgment’s terms.
Modification of a judgment post decree typically requires a significant change in the circumstances of one or both parties involved. Modifications can be related to spousal maintenance or child support, and they can be impacted by changes in employment or income for either party. Modifications to parenting relating to custody and parenting time can also be made.
